Important Times in a Childs Dental Schedule

    S Porter

Dental and health topics are talked about frequently in the United States and it seems that the dos and donts change on a daily basis. We all know that we should see a dentist every six months for preventative care because that hasnt changed for many years, but what about your children? Teeth are easily maintained after they all come in and nothing else changes, but while children grow they need several checkups to ensure long lasting healthy teeth. What happens during the first 12 years of your childs life will impact their teeth for as long as they live.

Children begin to get their baby teeth between 3 and 6 months and its easy to tell when this is happening because of their need to bite. After their baby teeth begin to come in, they can be cleaned by a light rubbing with a wash cloth until they are 1 year old. From 1 to 7 years old, children need a soft toothbrush and a pea sized dab of toothpaste. Dentists recommend that children make their first trip before they are 3 years old, but its time to make a decision at 1 year. If your child has high risk factors for tooth problems, 1 year is a good time to make your first appointment. High risk factors include; lots of juice, going to bed with something to drink, thumb sucking and most of all the health of YOUR teeth.

From 6 months to about 7 years, children have their baby teeth and they need to be treated well to last even that long. Fluoride and calcium are chemicals that bonds to teeth and makes them much stronger, but too much fluoride and it can cause teeth to become brown stained. It is essential that children receive the right amount of these chemicals and the only person who can tell you how much is your dentist. Some parts of the country have more naturally occurring fluoride in the water and food supply than other parts of the country and your local dentist will be able to tell you how much your child is getting. Fluoride and calcium are even more important after your childs adult teeth come in between 6 and 7 years old. These are the teeth they will have for the rest of their lives and strengthening them very early on will help protect them until they have children and grandchildren of their own.

Research has always shown that children who dont receive proper dental care early on have tooth problems most of their lives. Not getting enough strengthening chemicals in their food due to malnourishment and lack of dental care has always plagued the poorer sections of the country and the children pay for it. Over half of the country has no dental insurance through their employer and dental appointments can become very expensive if your child needs braces or has cavities. One solution to this problem is a dental discount program like Ameriplan. In one of these programs, dentists offer big discounts to their patients in exchange for cash payment. These programs cost less than $20 a month but they can cut the cost of braces in half. Other portions of the population may get assistance through Medicare and Medicaid, but lots of people will have to just suck it up and pay out of pocket.

New advances in mouthwash and toothpaste can allow you to whiten your teeth or strengthen them from the inside, but children have no idea what they need and dont need. Its up to us as parents to see to their health and dental and provide them with long, happy and productive lives. When our children have children of their own, most of these dental dos and donts will have changed. Until then, we can only do what we feel is best and what we know works!

I have been working in the healthcare field for years with a company that offers benefits in the form of discount programs.

Lyme disease (Lyme borreliosis) is caused by the bacteria Borrelia Burgdorferi. Ticks can transmit the bacteria by biting humans. Deer ticks spread Lyme disease in the northeastern and upper Midwestern United States, while western-blacklegged ticks are responsible for its spread along the Pacific coast.

A deer tick is any of several ticks of the genus Exudes that are parasitic on deer and other animals and transmit the infectious agents of febrile diseases, such as Lyme disease.

Lyme disease and its symptoms can occur at any age. It is most common among young children and those who work or reside in wooded areas because they are more likely to be exposed to the ticks. Expanding skin rash and flu-like symptoms are the earliest symptoms seen. A circular rash may develop at the bite’s site but many individuals do not get the rash. If Lyme disease goes undetected or is not properly treated, problems involving the skin, joints, nervous system, and heart may arise. Symptoms may appear weeks after exposure to infection or it mat take months or even years. Other symptoms may include; fatigue, headache and neck stiffness. There may be fever and chills. Swollen lymph nodes and muscle and joint pain are common. As many as 25% of patients have only flu-like symptoms and no other symptoms. Skin rashes may later appear in other areas. Pain, weakness, or numbness in the arms or legs could appear quickly. Paralysis of the facial nerves is not uncommon. Other neurological symptoms may include poor memory and difficulty in concentrating. Heart problems may include palpitations and eye problems usually include conjunctivitis or even deep tissue damage. Joint problems are common in all stages of the disease. If treatment is not started early enough late persistent Lyme disease symptoms may include; chronic fatigue, joint problems, heart symptoms and nervous system problems such as weakness or numbness in the arms or legs and difficulties with memory.

Lyme disease may be diagnosed based on the symptoms, the medical history, and the possibility of exposure to ticks. Blood tests may confirm the diagnosis if the disease is suspected, however, blood tests are often not reliable to diagnose this condition. Rheumatoid arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia and multiple sclerosis produce similar symptoms and must be considered.

Conventional medical treatment of Lyme disease should be prompt to prevent permanent damage. Antibiotic treatment for 3-4 weeks with doxycycline or amoxicillin is generally effective in early disease. Intravenous ceftriaxone or penicillin for 4 weeks or more may be needed in cases that were not treated early in the course of the disease. Treatment failures are not uncommon and re-treatment may be necessary.

Complementary medical approaches are used at this center to combat Lyme disease. Auricular Medicine (advanced ear acupuncture) is used to help evaluate the energetic status of the various body organs. Auricular Medicine can also be used in treating the organs affected and to support other vital organs that may be involved in the disease process. Homeopathic remedies may offer an invaluable complementary approach to help the body fight the involved bacteria and its symptoms.

Realizing a few facts regarding dentists could likely help ease worries and reinforce the necessity to consult one. Here are a number of them:

Services are by trained and certified dental practitioners

This is essential for each and every dental clinic worldwide. Never go to a dentist who is not appropriately trained. Simply knowing about the many horror stories of individuals experiencing excruciating pain in an untrained dentist\’s clinic or experiencing worsened dental problem must be sufficient to keep us forewarned.

    Clinics have the essential facilities

This is likewise true in every dental office that we are going to visit. The dentist could execute smoothly all dental treatments when the essential devices and apparatus are accessible and resources are in stock. This is the key sign that a dental clinic understands what it is doing and it is also a sign that the dental clinic has got a high standard of dental care as it adheres to the medical board\’s guidelines.

A well equipped dental clinic must have among others a dental chair, thermo disinfectors, air compressors, dental dams, ortho pliers and the listing goes on.

    Individual treatment

This is what we must expect to receive in each very good dental provider. It is because, one is guaranteed that the session will not be heard by many other people, the treatment won\’t be done in the open, nobody will hear as you undergo the treatment among others.

Additionally, the secrecy level is also great and one has peace of mind in knowing that what is spoken of will not leak out.

    Affordability of the dental service

A number of men and women regard dental services as pricey without considering that for the services they will get and the variety of equipment utilized, the prices are actually nominal. Furthermore, a clinic does not only offer a few expert services but provides a lot which will accommodate every individual\’s need. The affordability depends on the procedure being completed and that is why it is essential to have a consultation before as there are lots of procedures being done.

Visiting a dental practitioner each six months is required for various other reasons in addition to those mentioned above. When you disregard this, you will experience the repercussions of this action in due season. Seeing that you have read through this content page, make it a point to get your once a year or when needed dental consultation with a trained dentist so you will have the very best smile always.
